Woods In Contention

Tiger Woods hit six birdies on the opening day at St Andrews with just one slight mishap of a three putt bogey on the 17th leaving him on a solid 67 which the american declared himself satisfied with.

“Today felt awkward because there was absolutely no wind whatsoever and you never play a links golf course with no wind,” Woods stated.

“With the conditions you had to go get it – you had to take advantage of it. I felt like I did a pretty good job of that today and I let the round mature.”

“We’ve got three more rounds. I’m in good shape. As of right now we’re on the good side of the draw, but you don’t know tomorrow.”

Along with Woods was Lee Westwood who also matched the Americans six birdies and a single bogey to finish on five under, he was striking the ball well even after speculation that he may miss the Open due to a calf injury.

Sitting at five under along with Woods and Westwood are Americans, Watney,Glover and O’Hair and the USPGA champion YE Yang.
