Stricker Leads John Deere

Paul Goydos’s record breaking round was not good enough to hold first place on the second day as Steve Stricker takes a one stroke lead.

Stricker took the lead with a solid five-under second round of 66 to finish the day on 16-under-par whilst Goydos could only manage a round of 68 which leads him one shot off Stricker with 15-under-par.

Out of the three Australians who held third place after the first round only Matt Jones found himself still in the top three which he shares with Jeff Maggert and George McNeill. Jones had been as low as 13-under before bogies on the 17th and 18th gave him a round of 67 with the two Americans carding 65s.

Today’s 36 hole cut was made a four-under with 74 players remaining for the weekends play, one notable that will not be featuring in the weekend play is rookie Rickie Fowler who put in a solid back nine of 33 but finished the day two strokes off the cut. KJ Choi had one of the up and down rounds of the day hitting seven birdies but throwing them away by carding six bogeys, he finished on one under missing the cut by three.

England’s Brian Davis was the highest ranking Brit who sits at five under with a second round of 69, he is joined by Tim Clark and the Scandinavian duo of Richard Johnson and Henrik Bjornstad who both finished with rounds of 68.
