Brad Pitt Brings WORLD WAR Z To Glasgow

Brad Pitt’s latest film “World War Z” transformed Glasgow’s city centre into Philadelphia’s boulevards.

Pitt and his crew are in the city for the post apocalyptic zombie flick after being sighted previously on location in Valleta, Malta and in Falmouth, Cornwall. The tabloids reported how Pitt and wife Angelina Jolie and their family arrived in style earlier this week. Pitt-Jolie hired an entire Virgin train intercity rail service for their London-Glasgow journey.

The similar architecture and the comparable grid-like and wide streets of the Scottish City to the Pennsylvanian city was the primary factor why Glasgow was chosen for the location. Cochrane Street was temporarily renamed John F. Kennedy Boulevard even as they added American cop cars, yellow taxi cabs, road markings, new signage and other street furniture to make it all the more realistic.

The film is expected to bring in £2million to the local economy with its cast and crew of 1,200 people. Employment is also expected to rise as zombie extras were called for the open casting call in the city last month. Filming for the movie is expected to last for two weeks.

The movie is an adaptation of a novel by Max Brook which comes with the same title. The novel is based on the accounts of a U.N. worker about a decade-long zombie war which includes interviews with the zombie apocalypse survivors. Paramount Pictures however said the film version will follow a different path.

“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

The movie is directed by Marc Forster who also helmed Quantum of Solace and stars Pitt, Bryan Cranston and Mireille Enos. It will be in shown in cinemas by December 21, 2012.
