Montgomerie Rests Ahead of Final Ryder Cup Chance

Montgomerie Rests Ahead of Final Ryder Cup Chance

Lacking somewhat in confidence after a string of inconsistent performances on demanding courses – Monty has taken the decision to not participate in the SAS Masters or KLM Open to be staged in Holland in August.

His decision will leave himself little opportunity to impress European Ryder Cup Captain, Nick Faldo into selecting the Scot as one of his two wild-card entries. Monty’s last opportunity will come at the end of August in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, Scotland.

Monty is placing all hopes on taking a short break from the game as a catalyst for regaining his confidence and producing a Ryder Cup inspiring performance at Gleneagles. A string of good performances at the beginning of the summer included a top-20 place at the BMW, runner-up at the French Open and a share of the 24th position at the European Open.

Unfortunately, since the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond that saw him miss the cut – his performances have lacked confidence and most importantly, results.

Not breaking 70 in his last 11 rounds and poor finishes in America at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship – both contributing to his decision for a break from the game.

The golfing world is expecting both Ian Poulter and Paul Casey to be granted wild-card places in the team.
