McIlroy Hits Lowest Major Score

Rory McIlroy has equalled the lowest round in major history with an excellent 63 on the first day at St Andrews, this puts him 2 shots ahead going into the second day.

If it hadnt been for a poor short putt for a birdie on the 17th, Mcllroy could have been looking at breaking the record.

Amoung the leaders are the South African Louis Oosthuizen who hit a 65 in the challenging afternoon session and the 1995 St Andrews champion John Daley who ended the session on 6 under.

As expected Tiger Woods finds himself towards the top of the leaderboard after hitting a solid round of 67 as he hunts down his third consecutive Open crown.
