After such a disaster on Friday Rory Mcllory was satisfied as he recorded a third round 69 which leads him to four under par for the championship.
Rory McIlroy, a 21 year old man gave a shocking performance in the second round of the British open by finishing with an 80. After breaking the record for one of the best starts in a major tournament Rory McIlroy by settling on a score of 63 followed up in the second round with another record for one of the worst second rounds by a first round leader with an 80.
Unluckily he got out on a score of 34 and two more birdies got him temporarily back on the leaderboard, only for a double-bogey on the 17th to halt his momentum. A birdie at the last moment provided some relief and the Northern Irelander was in a much brighter mood than 24 hours earlier
“It was great to come out and play nicely the way I did there,” said McIlroy. “A bit disappointed with 17 obviously, but it was a good (birdie) three on the last.”I felt as if I responded quite well to the way everything happened yesterday.
“I knew I was playing nicely – I’m not going to let one round of golf really get me down.
He was stuggling with winds as they were very strong. But then also he hit some graceful shots on the day. And he was very optimistic as well as confident about the next game he said. “Depending on what happens tomorrow I’ll probably look back on the week and say ‘If I could have just made that 80 a 75 or whatever’, but I’m still confident that I can go out and shoot a good one tomorrow.”
