Retief Goosen of South Africa is definitely as tough as they come. The golfer needs to make the cut at the Barclays so badly that he will play with a broken toe.
Knowing that Hurricane Irene was coming to Florida, the 42-year-odl golfer decided to bring the boat to the garage but the trailer wheel ran over his toe and broke it. Goosen immediately went to hospital and had his toe X-rayed. But though doctors say that the toe was fractured, the golfer thinks that it is not since it does not hurt much.
Despite the hurting toe, Goosen is not going to abandon The Barclays as he needs a good finish in the season. Goosen is currently at No. 101 in the FedEx Cup list, with the 125 top players qualifying for the playoffs.
The injured golfer is not the only South African player that will compete in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Ernie Els claimed the 30th spot at the Wyndham Championship and jumped eight places up to No. 118.
In the meantime, Tiger Woods did not land a spot in the Fedex playoffs as he failed to make the PGA Championship cut. The top-seeded golfer is world No. 10 Nick Watney who won the 2011 WGC-Cadillac Championship and the AT&T National this season.
Phil Mickelson is the sixth seed in the playoffs, becoming the first golfer on the PGA tour to get a top tenth seed in five consecutive years.
