Theo Walcott Stretchered Off During Arsenal’s Premier League Game With Stoke City After Cesc Fabregas Is Substituted Early As A Precaution
Arsenal is facing the possibility of playing for the Carling Cup finals this Sunday without two of its key players who were injured in an earlier game.
Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott have been taken off against Stoke City.
Walcott left the field in a stretcher 20 minutes before end of the game after his awkward fall which led to the twisting of his knees. There are fears that Walcott had a serious injury which would leave him out of the final game in Birmingham City this Sunday.
That was however only the second blow for the Gunners on the same night. Captain Fabregas earlier left the field and was replaced by Andrey Arshavin. Fabregas, who seemed to be having problems during the early stages of the game, may have been taken off as a precaution considering that they were playing for the Cup.
The possible loss of the key midfield duo is very significant considering that Arsene Wenger is determined to end the six-year trophy drought of the club during this Sunday’s final.
There are reports that Fabregas had a possible hamstring injury which is yet to be determined before Sunday’s game. While Arsenal is hoping that the two players will not be ruled out for this Sunday’s Champion league return leg versus Barcelona, they do not have a choice but to place without the two if their assessments turn out disadvantageous for the club.
The strongest possible team was chosen by Wenger even if the game was scheduled four days before the League Cup. With the possible injury to the two players, Wenger may be wishing he had not.
