If Arsenal had any doubts about resigning Robin van Persie, they don’t have them anymore after his stellar performance that brought the team a victory after a poor start of the season.
Van Persie became the hero of the game after scoring both of Arsenal’s goals including a late winning goal in a 2-1 win over Sunderland that sent it into 10th place in the English Premier League standings.
Van Persie, 28 netted the opener just after 29 seconds but the sides went into half-time at 1-1after Gunner Sebastian Larsson’s goal. And 82 minutes later, Robin scored the second goal that turned out to be the winner.
It is rumored that Arsenal captain Van Persie might leave the club that has been in a precarious position lately. The London team was in 15th place before the game which is a drastic change for the worse after years of top-four finishes.
Van Persie has become the team’s captain and key player after the departure of Fabregas and Samir Nasri from Arsenal. Manchester City is one the clubs rumored to be interested in recruiting the 28-year-old footballer.
And though the Dutch striker whose contract with Arsenal expires in 2013 said that he would prefer to stay with Arsenal instead of signing a deal with a new club, rumors of Van Persie’s departure became more persistent as he listed his home in London for sale.
