According to Argentina coach, Sergio Batista, Lionel Messi could get round another football legend – his countryman Diego Maradona, as the best ever football player of all times.
Sergio Batista considers Messi being on his way to become the brightest football star ever, eclipsing even Maradona’s fame.
The young Argentinian forward plays for FC Barcelona and is reputed as the best player in the world, having such awards in his arsenal as two Ballon d’Or awards, winning the Champions League for two times already, the Club World Cup and numerous local contests in Spain.
The 23-year old player has been often compared with his elder fellow countryman Diego Maradona. The latter won the World Cup in 1986 and two Serie A titles with Napoli, and has been always regarded as the best football player ever.
However Sergio Batista is sure Messi could surpass Maradona and become a greater player, saying that “Messi is on his way to becoming the best footballer in history. If one looks into the future, Lionel has everything. Maradona was one of the greatest, without a doubt. But Messi right now is the best in the world, and we have to take advantage of that”.
Argentinean team will play a friendly match with its US colleagues on Saturday, and Messi is one of the players to represent his country. This fact will evidently make US players work harder.
US trainer Bob Bradley, whose team can be easily beaten on Saturday game, expressed his point of view about the Argentinean star: “Some players are just on the kind of level where you have huge admiration for them above anything else. Messi is one of those. Would I pay to watch him? Without a doubt.”
