Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted his 100th Serie A goal in Sunday’s match against Chievo and led Milan to a brilliant 4-0 victory.
All the four goals were scored before half-time. Ibrahimovic had a double while Alexandre Pato and Thiago Silva also got their names on the scoresheet.
This victory propelled Milan to the second-best place in the Serie A stadings, one point behind Juventus who have a match in hand.
In the previous game, Inter Milan defeated 10-man Siena 1-0 thanks to Luc Castaignos’ last-minute goal. As a result, Inter edged out Fiorentina who suffered a 2-0 loss at Palermo and got well away from the relegation zone.
Milan made their intent obvious by firing an effort that hit the crossbar in the opening seconds. And eight minutes later, Milan netted the opener as Ghanaian midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng sent a pass to Brazilian centre back Thiago Silva, who fired a powerful shot into the bottom left corner from 18 yards.
Another eight minutes later, Ibrahimovic scored his 100th goal as he redirected Alberto Aquilani’s cross. Aquilani also helped to set up Milan’s third goal as Pato scored off the rebound of his shot.
Milan’s final goal came off a penalty kick by Ibrahimovic. It was the 21th Serie A goal that Ibrahimovic scored for Milan, besides the 23 goals that he netted for Juventus and the 57 successful for Inter.
