Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona unleashed criticism of Pele, saying that the Brazilian record-breaking footballer must have been on the wrong medication when he said that Santos and Brazil forward Neymar was better than Barca’s Lionel Messi.

At Thursday’s press conference in Dubai, Maradona stated that Neymar was a good footballer but he would never be able to surpass Messi, the Barcelona striker who is likely to win his third Player of the Year award in a row.

Maradona who currently coaches Al Wasl FC has a long-time feud with Pele. The two legendary footballers argued last year when Pele publicly disapproved of Maradona’s style of coaching during the 2010 World Cup.

The Argentine was stirred by Pele’s statement saying that Neymar “technically” played better than Messi, but had to sweat a lot to prove to the world one day that he was the best footballer. Maradona did not agree with this opinion and expressed his indignation in strong terms.

Maradona said that it seemed that Pele seemed to have been on the wrong medication and taken the morning pill instead of the night one because he did not know what he was talking about when he made his statement. The Argentine also suggested to him to consult another doctor and take the right medication next time.
