If there was anything that could restore Arsenal’s confidence, it definitely happened on Saturday as the Gunners hammered Chelsea 3-5 in the London derby.
Everything could have turned out differently for the West London side. Chelsea scored the opener through Frank Lampard after 13 minutes. The hosts had a few more chances to increase the lead but wasted them.
In a slow first half of the eight-goal game, Arsenal’s Van Persie netted the equalizer in the 35th despite Petr Cech’s efforts to stop him.
But the score was level only for ten minutes as John Terry slipped past Per Mertesacker to grab the lead for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.
Arsenal grabbed the lead through Walcott for the first time in the 55th minute but not for long as Mata sent a brilliant shot Mata in the 80th minute, making Szczesny pick the ball out of the net.
However, the Gunners took it back four minutes later when Van Persie scored yet another goal and made it 3-4. The Dutch footballer added another goal in the first minute of stoppage time and secured the victory for the North London side.
Chelsea have an opportunity to overcome their humiliating domestic loss in this week’s Champions League game against Genk.
