A golf course to be built soon for the 2016 Olympic games

The most renowned sporting event – Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Golf has been added to the list of competitions after 112 years of pause, but the course it will be played on has to be built yet.

According to the R&A chief Peter Dawson, 15 design companies have already offered their service to create a golf course for the forthcoming 2016 Olympic Games. These are some big designer names, like Jack Nicklaus, Annika Sorenstam, Greg Norman, Lorena Ochoa, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Nick Faldo.

Peter Dawson thinks it’s a great idea to build a new golf course before the games started. He says that the Rio organizing committee doesn’t mind the idea as well. It is said they have found an ideal place for the course – it is located next to a beach and is only couple of kilometers away from the Olympic Village. The negotiations about the site have already started, and the president of the International Golf Federation hopes they will get positive results in two weeks or so.

The golf schedule is being elaborated already; it was decided that the golf competition will be held in the 2nd week of July rather than its traditional 3rd week. The site of the game should be determined soon.
